Watercolor Painting | The Koi

Hi all, here is the latest painting that I completed today. I shared a bit about this painting yesterday but only managed to work on it this afternoon. I am very happy with the outcome. This is the first time I painted with whitespaces. I learned this painting technique recently and it does make the painting look better and modern. I certainly will use this technique again in the future.

On personal life, my daughter is getting better. I mentioned yesterday that she developed mild myositis (leg muscles inflammation) due to influenza. I am happy to report that she has recovered. However, she is still required to stay home until Monday (quarantine period is for a week). After one week, hopefully she is no longer contagious. But I am quite positive with her progress because she isn’t coughing or has a runny nose.

Here are the progress photos of the painting:

A New Painting In Progress

Hi all, as you can see I am working on a new painting. However, it’s not complete yet so I can’t show you the whole thing except for this one progress photo:

I am pretty sure you can guess what the subject matter is! I am pretty excited about this new painting because I am trying a new watercolor technique that I just learned recently. I hope it will turn out okay. If it doesn’t, that is okay too 🙂

On personal news, my daughter developed myositis (leg muscles inflammation) due to the influenza. It’s not so serious and she still can walk albeit tiptoeing because it’s painful to stretch her calves. I was thinking to bring her to the pediatrician this evening but changed my mind because her condition seems to be improving. I will see how it goes tomorrow. If she is still complaining of the pain we will have to see the doctor. I hope it’s self-limited and will go away on its own 🙁

Also, I have uploaded two new designs for my stores. You probably have seen the first design because I posted it about a month ago but the second design is new.

Doodle Tree

Geometric Doodle Pattern

I love the simplicity of the second design and I will probably come out with more such designs in the future. That’s all for now. See ya!

Thank you for checking out my post! I hope you like my art and give me a follow 🙂

Pattern Design | Groovy Teardrops

Hi all, I posted about working on this pattern painting several days ago. I completed it yesterday but I couldn’t post anything because my daughter was very sick. In my previous post I mentioned that she was having a viral fever. Well, turned out it’s not just any viral fever. She has Influenza A or the flu. Her condition started to deteriorate around yesterday evening. I knew it was very serious because she was limp and weak. In my mind, it could be either a dengue fever or the flu. I immediately told my husband to bring her to the ER. She had a blood test and was cleared of dengue and a simple nasal swap confirmed the diagnosis – influenza A. She was given 4 different medications and was sent home to rest and was told to stay home for a week (quarantine). A week-long away from school.

Thank God her condition improved today. Her fever finally broke sometime at the wee hours of the morning. She regained her appetite and her usual self. Apart from her occasionally runny nose, she is perfectly fine. Also, thank God that my son had his flu vaccine last month. Otherwise, he would fall sick as well. As for me, well, I have a bit of sore throat but other than that I feel completely fine.

After a couple of days full of anxiety, I am finally able to relax a bit and work on my art. I spent my afternoon on the computer editing this painting and prepping it for my Redbubble and Creative United shop.

Here are the progress photos:

And look at these groovy products! I totally love how it turned out! Here are some selections from my Redbubble store.

And my local Malaysian followers can purchase these lovelies on my Creative United store.

My Girl Has A Viral Fever

Hi all, I started this new pattern design earlier today but couldn’t complete it because I was busy taking care of my sick daughter. The packed activities over the weekends finally took a toll on her. She went to school as usual in the morning but around 11am I received a call from her teacher saying that she was complaining of a headache. This was the first time it happened this year and she hardly has a headache.  I knew she must have developed a fever. Since we only have one car, I had to call my husband to go and fetch her from school. Within 30 minutes they reached home. She was feverish and lethargic. I called our family clinic whether we could come to consult the doctor but was advised to come at 3.30pm because the doctor was not in the office. I gave her a dose of paracetamol syrup after lunch and sent her to bed. However, her fever persisted.

Around 4pm I drove her to the clinic and she was diagnosed with a viral fever and was sent home with a medication, and was advised to take plenty of rest and drink more water. We came home at 5.30pm and she continued her nap until her dad came home from work at 8.30pm. She was still lethargic but felt much better.

Such is a parent life. When your kids are sick you have to put aside other things and focus your priority on them. I only managed to squeeze a bit of time to paint this small section of my latest pattern painting. If my daughter feels better tomorrow I might be able to finish it. But for now, I have nothing much to show other than this small progress.

Thank you for checking out my post! I hope you like my art and give me a follow 🙂

My Daughter’s Birthday | A Trip to the Zoo

Hi all, no art post from me today. My daughter celebrated her 8th birthday and we had been spending the whole day to fulfill her birthday wishes. One of those wishes was to visit the National Zoo and also the Giant Panda Conservation Centre which is located within the zoo. She had been talking about this for months and we (her dad and I) had been telling her, we will bring her there on her birthday. And today we fulfilled our promises and we had a great family time at the zoo.

The last time we visited the zoo was about five years ago when my daughter was 3. My son was not born yet at that time. I asked her if she remembered anything from that trip and she said she didn’t. Back then the entrance fee was very cheap, around MYR10 (USD2.40) for adults and cheaper for children. I was quite surprised to learn that they had increased the fee to MYR44 for adults and MYR16 for kids (free entrance for 2 and below) and quickly learned that the fee was inclusive of a visit to the Giant Panda Conservation Centre. To be honest, I don’t mind the high price mainly because we don’t go there on regular basis and I am sure the money will be used to maintain the place and for the animals. I know some people are complaining about the ticket prices and I am not sure whether they are of sound mind. No one ever forces anyone to go to the zoo. If you can’t afford it or want a free animal show/viewing, well, just go to a dense jungle like our national parks, and go find the animals, or watch Youtube videos. Why bother?

I will not bore you with the details of our day but just going to show you some pictures taken today and a couple of videos of the Malayan tiger and the pony.

The weather was a typical Malaysian weather, warm and humid, but the trees provided enough shade and it wasn’t so bad. Most of the animals were napping. It was right after their feeding time and they were taking refuge from the afternoon heat.

Here are the videos. I am pleasantly surprised to see they had upgraded the tigers’ enclosures and we even managed to see the tigers up close! That was a very exciting experience!

And the pony…

Overall, it was an amazing day with the kids. We spent about 5 hours in the zoo and left when it was about 30 minutes before the closing time. We were so exhausted but the most important thing was we wanted to create memories. Children grow so fast and we want to create as many happy memories with them while we can. We never know what the future may hold, so we want to treasure every moment we have while we can 🙂
