Doodle Art | Girl With the Red Umbrella

Just a simple doodle for today. Girl with the red umbrella. I am working on a couple of simple doodle/paintings but I am just posting this one and will post the other one tomorrow. Here’s a beautiful poem by Stacey Renshaw that inspires this drawing ūüôā

The Girl With the Red Umbrella

The girl with the red umbrella is hiding her tears as the rain falls heavily and her island home disappears.
The house where she has spent her whole life is seen in the distance and her memories are replayed in an instant.
The girl grips the handle of the red umbrella so tight
as the boat sails sorrowfully by.
The girl protects herself with the red umbrella against the elements of life,
For this was the precious gift given to her by her devoted father
on the very same day he died.

Doodle Art | The Tree and Its Roots

Inktober is coming. First time reading that term? Well, what is Inktober?

Inktober is a month long art challenge created by artist Jake Parker that is focused on improving skill and developing positive drawing habits. Every day for the month of October anyone participating in the Inktober challenge creates an ink drawing and posts it online. ~ FAQ Inktober.com

Someone mentioned to me that I am way ahead of others in posting my doodle drawings! It’s not October yet, but I have posted several of my black and white doodles for the past couple of weeks. To be honest, I didn’t do these drawings for Inktober 2019 challenge. I never participated before. Inktober or not I will continue to draw my doodles and post them here ūüôā

Today’s piece is a doodle tree. Looks more like an alien tree though LOL.

The idea for this piece came from a book I am currently reading РThe Root of Rejection by Joyce Meyer. One of the interesting facts I learned from this book came from a leading Christian physician and counselor, Paul Tournier. Tournier made a surprising observation that a large number of prominent world leaders had one thing in common: they were orphans. And many of these leaders suffered from some form of abuse Рemotional, sexual, or physical abuse. This is what Tournier wrote in regards to his observation:

“This is confirmed in numerous studies of high performers. As many as three-fourths of those who become celebrated achievers are estimated to have suffered serious emotional deprivation or hardship in childhood. Because they feel so worthless inside, they will work themselves practically to death trying to have some value. And as a result¬†of that, many of them become successful.”

REJECTION.¬†These people felt rejected. And that sense of rejection is so deeply rooted in them and becomes the fuel that fires their drive and determination to succeed, to prove to the world and themselves that they worth something…

Rejection starts as a single seed that is planted in our lives through different experiences. The seed grows into a tree with roots that are deep. If we are rooted in rejection, what kind of fruits will we bear? Depression, insecurity, a sense of inferiority, self-pity, judgmentalism, negativity and so on.

So hence the doodle of the tree. It makes me question myself what kind of “fruits” do I bear since in humility I do admit I have a root of rejection that grows deep within my soul.

My Flower Doodle Design

I had a bit of lousy day today. I had a¬†migraine. It doesn’t happen frequently these days unlike before I fell sick and had to go through a surgery earlier this year. However, when it happens, it can be very uncomfortable. I try not to complain because my migraine is nothing compares to what one of my dear friends is going through. She has a severe migraine/chronic pain that affects her ability to work as normal people do. Anyway, such is life. It is always unfair but we have to face whatever challenges we have with courage and strength.

I didn’t manage to be online much but when I did have a bit of time, I used it to upload more designs to my Redbubble store. I started to be more active there these days because I decided to close a couple of my local stores (yes, I have several online shops :). I felt like I am stretching myself too thin and I thought it’s better to focus on one store rather than trying to manage several shops. I even research for ways to make my designs better and I am considering to enroll in an online marketing course to better promote myself as an artist.

Here is one of the designs I uploaded to my shop today. I made this doodle several months ago for a doodle tutorial post.

New Doodle On My Redbubble Store | I Miss You!

I made this doodle about 6 months ago after losing a couple of relatives to intense illnesses. They died within a week from one another. Their loss shook me to the core simply because I was (and still is) dealing with the trauma of my own illness. I was suffering from mild anxiety right after receiving the news of their passing.

Life is very fragile and nothing is certain or guaranteed in this world.

To cope with my pain and anxiety, I turned to art. Art is the only thing that could calm my nerves other than spending time with God in prayers and reading the Bible. This doodle was one of the artwork I was producing at that time. I wrote about it here in this post, Grieving And Doodling To Cope. I even offered this doodle as a free downloadable coloring page. If you are keen, you can download it from this link: free coloring page (personal use).

So today I was going through my files and I found the original copy of the doodle and I decided to upload it to my Redbubble store. In fact, I found quite a number of past work that I could use in my store. For the past couple of years I have been working almost daily on new art, I have quite a nice collection =).

I really love this new addition to my store and here are some of the products:

Prints

Phone/table cases

Stickers

Sling backpack

Greeting cards

These are just 6 out of 50 of this particular design. Check out my Redbubble store to find out more ūüôā

Doodle Art | Cat!

Another “quick” doodle from me today. It’s a silhouette of a cat! Have I ever told you that I love cats? I am a cat person but I down own one. I prefer not to keep pets, at least not for now. One reason¬†is my son has asthma and cat’s fur may trigger it. Another reason is I can’t afford to provide the best care for it – food, vaccinations etc. In my opinion, it is **better** not have a pet if I can’t provide all the basic needs it deserves. I have seen people who **”hoard”** pets and don’t provide the best care to them and the pets are suffering from sickness and malnourishment. Most never bother to spay them and they breed and breed and end up as strays. That’s not LOVE. That’s cruelty and selfishness!

Back to the doodle, here are the progress photos:

Doodle Art | Keep Dancing

Today I am taking a break from doodle painting and I decided to make something simpler (if you can call it that LOL). A small, A5 size, doodle art with a silhouette of a ballerina. My inspiration comes from a Pinterest pin, here.

The doodle, though it looks intricate, it wasn’t hard to draw. It just consists of a flower pattern that was repeated several times. It took me a couple of hours to complete this from start to finish.

The dance can reveal everything mysterious that is hidden in music, and it has the additional merit of being human and palpable. Dancing is poetry with arms and legs. ~ Charles Baudelaire

Doodle Painting | Orang Ulu Girl part 2

Finally, this doodle painting is completed. It took me almost a week to complete it. I was working on a commission portrait and had to put this aside. I fell sick several days ago and couldn’t really work on anything and this piece was further delayed. I wrote about this doodle here: Doodle Painting | Orang Ulu Girl.

The Orang Ulu tribal groups are diverse, they typically live in longhouses elaborately decorated with murals and woodcarvings. They are also well known for their intricate beadwork detailed tattoos, rattan weaving, and other tribal crafts. The Orang Ulu tribes can also be identified by their unique music Рdistinctive sounds from their sapes, a plucked boat-shaped lute, formerly with two strings, nowadays usually with four strings. They also practice Kanjet, a form of traditional dance. ~ Wikipedia

I guess I could never stick to monochrome colors or at most 3 colors. Almost all of my paintings are colorful! LOL rainbow colors make me happy. This painting is no exception, something bright, cheerful happy!

4 New Designs At My Redbubble Store

I have not updated my Redbubble store for several months due to some technical issues related to my images. For some unknown causes, my images were not accepted by the site. I didn’t pay much attention to it because I thought it was due to a glitch on the site. However, after trying again several times I decided to send a bug ticket to inquire. Apparently, it was caused by the EXIF data of my images. I was using GIMP to clean my scanned drawings and the software attached some data to my images that weren’t recognized by Redbubble. The tech assistant taught me to strip those data and voila! the problem is solved. And today, I managed to upload four new designs to my store.

I drew these doodles several months ago and they were meant for my Steemit stickers! However, since I owned the designs I can reuse them for whatever I like =). What do you think of these doodles? I really love intricate doodles like these but the problem is creating them make my¬†fingers suffer ūüôĀ

Head out to my Redbubble store to check out these products. I have many more designs already at the store and I will continue to upload new designs every week ūüôā

Finally I Updated My Portfolio!

I finally updated my portfolio after a couple of years of setting up my website! For the past 15 months, I was busy blogging at Steemit.com and this website was basically abandoned. I was too busy building my presence over there that I thought it was too much work to maintain a couple of sites at the same time. However, I keep this site because I knew I will be actively using it eventually. And since I discovered Steempress plugin , there is no need for me to use Steemit editor because whatever I posted here will be posted on Steemit simultaneously.

No art post from me today because I was going through my artworks to select the best ones to feature on my portfolio. I have been pursuing art seriously close to 5 years now and I have a small collection of artwork that I keep in files. I said “small” because what I created were nothing compared to those who have been in this field for many, many years. Throughout these years I always reverted to 3 art styles – doodle, stencil, and portrait. I guess I could never choose to pursue solely one style. I love the three of them equally but I can never know. I may prefer one style over the others as time goes by. There is a very good article talking about this: Does it pay to specialize as an artist?

You can view my portfolio here. I have another page to update which is the¬†In the Press page. I have a couple of press clippings¬†that I want to upload but that will have to wait ūüôā

Doodle Painting | Orang Ulu Girl

“Orang Ulu” girl doodle? What is Orang Ulu? Orang Ulu literally means “people of the interior” in Malay. Orang Ulu is a term that is used to identify a group of 27 small tribal groups in the northeastern part of Sarawak (Malaysia Borneo).

~ Wikipedia

Orang Ulu women are well-known for their beauty. You can see pictures of them here. I am inspired to make a doodle painting as a tribute to their beauty. This doodle is not complete yet. I was busy upgrading my website and installing Steempress plugin.¬†I heard about this plugin several months ago but I wanted to “clean up” my website before I could use it. See, I have not updated my¬†site for more than a year and some of the information stated there had changed. I stopped updating my site when I discovered Steemit because I find it was too bothersome to post at 2 different sites.¬†Now I am so thrilled to know there is an app that I could use to post on my site and also post on Steemit at the same time! Finally, I can use my site as my “HQ” with all the links to my art shop¬†all in one place ūüôā

I hope to finish this painting tomorrow but it all depends on my kids if they are well. Both of them are down with mild cold and my concern is for my son because he has asthma. I hope it doesn’t cause wheezing ūüôĀ
