Watercolor Art | Zebra

Another painting in my totem animal series – the whimsy zebra. Of course, this painting was inspired by the trip to the zoo on my daughter’s eighth birthday. You can read that post here:  My Daughter’s Birthday | A Trip to the Zoo.

There was one area in the zoo called The Savannah where they kept the zebras and giraffes. There was a section for the ostrich as well. I am glad these animals have a larger area to roam. On our trip several years ago, they used to keep them on a small plot of land.

Here are the progress photos for this painting. I used watercolors and watercolor markers for this painting.

Watercolor Art | The Swan

This painting of the swan was completed about three weeks ago. However, I didn’t manage to post it here because the kids and I were very sick with dengue fever. Today I feel a lot better and decided to update my online shops and upload this design there.

This painting was a part of totem animal series that I was working on. I have two more paintings in this series that I haven’t share here. I will post them here in the next couple of days.

Here are some progress photos of the painting.

And here are some sample products on my Redbubble and Society6 shops.

Disappeared For A Couple of Weeks Due to Dengue Fever

Hi all, I have been silent and not post anything for more than a couple of weeks. There is a serious reason why I didn’t post anything. My kids and I contracted the dreadful dengue fever. For those who are not aware of this disease, dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. This illness has no vaccine and no medication. The survival rate depends on our immune system to fight the disease. And one of the things that help to fight the virus is to keep our body hydrated as much as we can. However, it wasn’t easy as it sounds.

I developed a fever before my kids. It started with a high fever, above 39 Celcius, followed by joint and muscles pain, and extreme fatigue. Then the horrible headaches came. And I had no appetite and very nauseous. My son had his fever the day after mine and my daughter a week later. My son and I were hospitalized around the same time and my daughter a week later. I am not going to share the details of our ordeal here because it was horrible. Our fever lasted for a week but thankfully my kids didn’t suffer as much as I did. My platelets count dropped to 30 on day 5 and my gum started to bleed on the same day but thank God it wasn’t severe.

We were discharged after a week in the hospital and we are recovering well at home. I am still suffering from mild fatigue and I make it a point not to over exert myself and focus on being positive at all times and of course, knowing that God is still in control of my situation no matter how discouraging.

Here are some pictures which were taken when we were in the hospital and the last picture was taken today at the airport. My daughter was discharged from the hospital last Friday and the kids are doing well.

I would like to thank our family and friends for praying and assisting us during this difficult time, especially my eldest sister who came all the way from my home state to help my family. And also my niece family who was so kind in babysitting my kids while I was so sick to take care of them. I don’t think I can survive this without their selfless help. Thank you!

Cute Sloth Art From My Shops

Hi all, how is everyone doing? I have no artwork to share today because I spent the whole afternoon editing this painting on my computer and uploading it to my stores. I am very pleased with the result because the colors look so vivid and not “washed out” like some of my earlier designs. I guess the long hours I spent learning digital editing is finally paying off. There are so many things I need to learn but with my time constraint, I need to take things one step at a time. I believe in the power of perseverance and consistency. If you have been following me for a while you might notice that I rarely post anything else other than my art 🙂

Anyhow, here are some sample products from both of my shops – Redbubble and Society6.

I really love the home decors range especially the pillows and duvet covers and I am sharing them here for all to see. Do feel free to check out my shops :).

Watercolor Art | Bucketful of Sloths

The sloth painting is finally completed LOL! Yesterday I was sharing my first attempt at painting these sloths and according to my daughter, they looked like zombies LOL. I re-sketched it and finally decided to go with this second version, rounder, and cuddlier looking sloths!

The idea to paint these cute creatures came from this video, featuring a basketful of orphaned baby sloths rescued by the Jaguar Rescue Center in Costa Rica. They are so cute!

And here is the rough sketch before I trace it on a watercolor paper.

I used this rough sketch to play with the colors. Initially, I wanted to use ochre and brown for the fur but it turned out to be too yellowish, so I chose brown and vandyke brown instead. I used turquoise for the background and orange for the bucket. And finally, I used white gouache paint for the “highlights” on their furs. Brown is a dull color and the white highlights make the painting livelier.

What do you think of my sloths? Aren’t they cute?

Zombie Sloths

In yesterday’s post, I shared a couple of pages from my sketchbook and one of it was a bucketful of sloths. So today I decided to work on the sloth painting. I sketched it exactly the way I did in my sketchbook and it went quite well until I shown it to my 8 years old daughter to ask for her honest opinion. And guess what? She said they look like zombies! LMAO! She was right.

I did a terrible mistake by using gray on their faces and the shade became too pale and ghoulish LOL!

So I had to discard the painting and start all over again. I re-sketched the idea and made the sloths roundish and cuddly. And here is the outcome…it’s not too clear but it certainly looks better than the first one.

I will trace this sketch on a new painting paper and hopefully, I can start working on it tomorrow morning 🙂

A Couple of Pages From My Sketchbook

Hi all, how is your weekend so far? I decided to take a break from creating art and spend some time to sketch ideas in my sketchbook. I am still working on my “totem animal series”. I have painted close to 10 cute animal illustrations and I don’t think I will stop anytime soon. To those who are unaware, this drawing series is partly inspired by a drawing challenge I participated on Instagram and also by a recent trip to the zoo on my daughter’s birthday earlier this month.

Here are a couple of pages from my sketchbook. A bucketful of sloths and a baby tapir smelling some flowers. Aren’t they cute?

Watercolor Art | Pink Owl!

Hi all! Today I want to present to you the re-make of one of my drawings that I made earlier this year. The original owl art (below image) was made for a drawing contest on Steemit and it was in colored pencil. I didn’t win the contest though because there were so many other awesome entries. I remember the night I drew it, it was very late at night, probably around 1:00am. Everyone was in bed and it was quiet. And all of sudden I heard something strange. I heard the sound of bouncing marbles on the ceiling. It wasn’t so freaky if the apartment unit above ours wasn’t empty but it was (still is)! The sound of bouncing and rolling marbles were so distinct I had to stop drawing and went to bed. I had goosebumps when I think of it. That was the first time I heard that sound and I haven’t hear it again in months. The apartment is up for sale and it has been vacant for more than a year or probably more. I am not sure if the apartment is haunted but so far, other than that night, we had no other strange incidents. Anyway, maybe I am just superstitious but here is the original owl art:

And the progress photos of the new painting in watercolor:

What do you think of these drawing/painting? Which one do you like more?

Also, this design is available in my Redbubble and Society6 stores. Do feel free to check them out 🙂

Watercolor Art | Hedgehogs!

Hi all, any hedgehog lovers here? I think hedgehogs are super cute animals. I have a friend who keeps hedgehogs as pets. Initially, it was just one, a male hedgy, I think, and he was kind of lonely and my friend got another one, a female this time. And of course, they had babies in no time LOL. Hedgehogs are “productive” creatures and my friend had to give away/sell some of the babies. At one point I wanted to keep one but after knowing they eat worms(!), I canceled my intention! Here is a video of a hedgy having worm feast!

There is no way I could ever handle that sight, let alone feeding it to my pet LOL!

Anyway, here are the progress photos of this painting 🙂

And yes, if you love hedgehogs and want a copy of this art, do visit my Redbubble and Society6 stores. Those in Malaysia might have to wait because I haven’t uploaded this design to my Creative United store yet. There is so many to do and so little time!

Watercolor Art | Lazy Cat!

Hi all, how is everyone doing? Yesterday I posted about working on five new “totem animal” paintings and today I am going to share with you the first painting in that series – the LAZY CAT! This cat expression is hilarious and it made me laugh because it’s a classic annoyed cat expression LOL. I couldn’t resist but to include the caption “what?”

What do think of this painting?

Here are the progress photos:

Of course, this painting is available on my Redbubble and Society6 shops :). Here are some sample products. I absolutely adore the stickers and the cards. I think they make great gifts for any cat lovers out there 😉
