My latest artwork, a pencil sketch of Frida Kahlo. Frida is one of my favorite visual artists (I have a lot of favorites LOL). Frida was in the league of her own. Did you know that she suffered from chronic pain and illness most of her life due to a horrible accident when she was 18? She underwent surgeries and was bedridden for a long time. However, despite her pain, she managed to paint, mostly self-portraits.
I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best.
Frida’s paintings were so personal because she painted her struggles and sufferings. Some people may dislike her style or subjects but to me, her vulnerability is inspiring.
I never paint dreams or nightmares. I paint my own reality.
And here is my pencil sketch of Frida, as a tribute to this beautiful and tragic artist.
